3 Time Oscar-Winning Animator Richard Williams Dies at 86
|

Richard Williams, the three-time Oscar-winning animator best known to the world for ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’,
and to the animation industry for “The Animators Survival Kit,” his seminal instructional book, DVD and app set,
passed away yesterday at the age of 86 at his home in Bristol, England.
|
|
In a career that spanned more than 60 years, though most widely known for his acclaimed and ground-breaking
integration of cartoon animation and live-action as the animation director on Robert Zemeckis’ Who Framed
Roger Rabbit, which garnered him an Oscar for Best Visual Effects as well as a Special Achievement Academy
Award, he had been producing award-winning animation for several decades prior, winning his first Oscar in 1973
for the animated short, A Christmas Carol.

‘Matrix 4’ a Go at Warner with Keanu Reeves,

One of the world’s most iconic and ground-breaking VFX-driven science fiction franchises is back in play. Warner
Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures are set to produce Matrix 4, with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss
returning in the roles of Neo and Trinity. Lana Wachowski will direct the film, with production to begin early 2020.

The Matrix, released in 1999, introduced the world to the famous ‘Bullet Time’ photographic visual effects
sequences, harnessing computer graphics technology in a way never before seen on screen and garnering John
Gaeta with a Best Visual Effects Oscar.

SUPER HERO CHARACTER DESIGN FOR ANIMATION

A workshop was conducted on ‘Super Hero Character Design for Animation’ for Trinity students on 12th & 13th
August, 2019. Total 10 students attended the workshop where they learnt technical and aesthetic technique of
Character Design, Character Model Sheet, Digital Character Painting, etc.

CHARACTER DIGITAL PAINTING FOR GAMING
|
|
Trinity students received understanding of the technical and aesthetic technique of Character Design, Digital
Character Painting, etc. through a workshop on ‘Character Digital Painting for Gaming’ conducted on 16th & 17th August,
2019. Total 7 students attended the workshop.

An Annual Picnic was conducted for Arena students and staff on 14th August, 2019 at Khopoli. It was attended by more than 40 students and 10 staff members.

|
‘Megh Malhar’ was organised on 23rd August, 2019 where Arena students displayed their projects ‘Best Out of
Waste’ & digital artworks and were awarded prizes and certificates for the same. More than 70 students
participated in the activity

A Gaming Seminar was organised for Arena students by Mr. Madhur Gupta (Unity XR, AR, VR Specialist, Unity Technologies) on 29th August, 2019. It was attended by 80 internal students and 75 external students

CAREER AND PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

A Seminar on ‘Career and Placement Opportunities in the Media & Entertainment Industry’ was conducted for
engineering students on 9th & 14th August, 2019. 95 students attended the seminar where they received the
knowledge of alternate career options to explore, along with an Engineering degree, and immense placement
opportunities with Arena Animation

On 10th August, 2019, a VR Booth activity was conducted for class 9th and 10th students. The event started with a talk
on the Media & Entertainment industry followed by a VR experience booth. 100 students, along with their parents,
attended the activity, where they were advised about career opportunities and scope in the Media &
Entertainment industry with Arena Animation courses.

A Seminar on ‘What career to choose after 12th?’ was conducted on 11th August, 2019 for 60 students of class 12th to advise them about the exciting and highly rewarding career opportunities in the Media & Entertainment industry.

MAKING OF ECO-FRIENDLY LORD GANESHA IDOL

|
An activity on ‘Making of eco-friendly Lord Ganesha Idol’ was conducted for Arena students on 29th August, 2019,
where they learnt about the technical and aesthetic technique of Sculpting by Clay and 3D feel by making the idol
of Lord Ganesha. Total 30 students attended this session.

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING & BOLLYWOOD FILM INDUSTRY
|

|

Arena students got to meet Bollywood actor Mr. Karanvir Bohra through an exciting meet and greet session on the
Insights of Social Media Marketing and Bollywood Film Industry on 14th<. August, 2019. During this session, students
got to learn a lot about social media marketing, the Indian Film industry and Bollywood.

A Seminar on Animation, VFX and Gaming was conducted on 30th August, 2019 at L. S. Raheja College of Arts & Commerce, Mumbai. More than 50 students attended the seminar.

More than 400 Arena students visited the National Museum of Indian Cinema during 7th and 17th August, 2019.
The students saw the journey of Indian cinema from the silent era to the new-age technologies being used in the
filmmaking process.

SEMINAR ON 3D AND VFX BY INDUSTRY EXPERTS

|
|
A seminar on 3D and VFX was conducted by industry experts on 17th August, 2019 for Arena students. More than 100 students attended the seminar.

8 Campus Interviews were conducted in the month of August 2019. More than 100 students participated in these
interviews and 25 students got placed. Students also received placement talk from the companies which explained
them about the current industry scenario and the latest trends in the field of graphics, animation, VFX and 3D.

An Expert Session was conducted by Mr. Manish, Animation Director of 88 Pictures. He expressed ideas about 3D Pipeline to 25 students who participated in the session.

3 Mini Creative Minds were celebrated at different places, which was conducted by Academic Head Mr. Suresh Kumar. 130 students participated in the event where students received corrections and suggestions on their work.

THE ANIMATION SOCIETY OF INDIA EVENT

Arena Animation hosted ‘TASI - The Animation Society of India Event’ on 10th August, 2019. At this event, students
got the opportunity to see the showreel or making of a famous TV commercial for ‘Dr. Fixit’ featuring Indian cinema
legend Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. The creative brains behind this advertisement Mr. Vaibhav More (Head of VM Films
and expert in short format stylized animations), Mr. Rohan Bhalerao, and Mr. Nitin offered insights on the making
of this ad.

World Photography Day was celebrated on 19th August, 2019, based on the theme ‘#CreativeCaptures’. Participants
were asked to show eco-friendly ways to save nature through their pictures and help bring about a positive
change.

A total number of 59,568 new projects were uploaded this month on Creosouls and 708 new users joined. Also, a total number of 2,568 job openings were posted for different locations.
